This years special event in Barkham will be the LARGEST SIMULTANEOUS DOG STAY. We are going for the Canadian Record in 2010 with the goal of breaking the Guinness World Record in the fall of 2010.

The current world record (as of the date of this writing) for the largest simultaneous dog stay involved 627 dogs at an event called “Super Sit” organized by the RSPCA at the Wag and Bone Show, Windsor Great Park (UK) on August 6, 2005.

The Canadian Record is 130 dogs. We hope to have 200 dogs participating this year to set a new Canadian Record.  If you want to be part of the World Record Attempt in 2010, then you will want to participate in this attempt.

Last Year's Results

At Barkham on June 20, 2009, 86 people and their dogs came together on a very damp, rainy day to attempt to set the Canadian Record for The Largest Simultaneous Dog Stay. Of the 86 dogs, 71 stayed for 2 minutes. It was a truly awesome and moving experience.

We will set the Canadian Record and ultimately we will break the Guinness World Record of 627 dogs.

It's free for individuals to participate in this event. All you need is one dog that is good with people and other dogs, and can stay for 2 minutes. Each handler may bring a maximum of 2 dogs. All successful participants will be recognized with a listing of the owner's name, the dog's name and the breed of the dog.

In the meantime, if you want to participate in this event but your dog won't stay for even 5 seconds, never mind 2 minutes!!

Don't worry, we have all been there with our dogs.

Guinness World Record Guidelines for LARGEST SIMULTANEOUS DOG STAY
The record for the largest simultaneous dog stay at either one location or multiple venues is based on the number of dogs who ‘stay’ successfully for 2 minutes.

1) A ‘stay’ means the dog can either be sitting or lying down in the upright position, i.e not on its side or back.

2) If multi-venue - a minimum number of 30 dogs must be at each location.

3) The name of each dog and handler must be recorded and sent as evidence for the record attempt.

4) The ‘stay’ should last for 2 minutes exactly.

5) The ‘stay’ should begin and end at exactly the same time at all the locations.

6) If any of the dogs move from the position during the 2 minutes, they will not be counted in the record attempt. ONLY the dogs who successfully stay for the 2 minutes will count.

7) Verbal commands from the handlers are allowed throughout the attempt .

8) The handlers are not allowed to touch the dog once timing has started. We suggest that the handler stands slightly away from the dog, to help the witnesses see that they are not touching the animal.

9) All dogs will be on a lead during the attempt. The lead must clearly be slack throughout the 2 minutes of the attempt. The slack lead must be visible to the observers.

10) If the dog changes from a sit to a lying position, or lying to a sitting position during the 2 mins, this will still count, as long as the dog does not change location in between. The dog must remain on the same spot.

11) At least one qualified vet should be in attendance at each venue.

12) Dog trainers/handlers, should be watching the dogs the whole time and should record the number of successful stays. The number depends on the amount of dogs at each location.
